About my art

My drawings and paintings exist from all aspects of nature. The subject matter may be: animals, a vase of flowers or a variety of landscapes, I commune with nature and enjoy the pleasures of spring, summer, fall and winter. Many long walks onto mountain paths have helped me become more aware of flowers in blossom, insects, caterpillars, butterflies and moths. Many of my works of art are fantasy animal drawings that have been hidden in my subconscious. These are perhaps the most delightful of my drawings.

I also enjoy people. My interest lies in people from all walks of life. Some people are rich and others are poor. The housewife, observations at coffee houses or found on buses enrich my artistic vocabulary. Many times I feel like an outsider looking at the political, social aspects of life.

I have traveled to Europe, Mexico and many parts of the United States enriching my artistic content and subject matter. I have studied many art history books and was strongly influenced by German Expressionist prints and paintings. Ugliness and beauty exist in all aspects of life itself. I have experienced hunger, and depression, happiness and fulfillment in the path of life. I share my experiences thru my artwork to speak to the audience.

Even in my abstract paintings the subject matter is still suggested. Color, form, composition and content all evolve into the final product. Some of my art works are whimsical and distorted. I take liberties with the subject matter.

I do not draw or paint exactly what I see but rather a feeling about what I see. My art materials can be napkins, paper towels, paper cups or high quality Reives paper.

Each work of art is a new adventure for me. The hardest part of my new adventure is to know when the final product is complete. When does the artist stop? My appetite to create is continuous and my plate is always full. I hope these works of art bring you as much pleasure as they have for me to create them.
